About
Pam Kane |
Pam
Kane is a world-class author and traveler. She has visited 148 countries
(and counting), six continents, all 50 states and flown over a million
miles. Happy Sails: The Carefree Cruiser's
Handbook is her twelfth book and her second about cruise
travel. Her first, Cruise Control, was the #1 best-selling cruise
travel book on Amazon.com.
She survived growing up as far from an ocean as any place could possibly be—Iowa. Carrying on deep, philosophical conversations with her father’s dairy herd of Guernsey cows (all named for the wives of other local farmers) wasn’t enough. As soon as she could, after the pesky college thing, she took to the air as a flight attendant with United Airlines for two years. She hasn’t stayed home for too long ever since—except to raise four children. She lived in the Caribbean four years and brings a special insight to cruisers on those popular itineraries. She lived in Italy briefly, has traveled extensively "on the Continent," throughout the Antipodes and the Pacific Rim. Ms. Kane speaks five languages other than English, all, she admits, poorly. Ms. Kane is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), which has the highest admission standards in the world of writers. She is also a member of other travel-related writers’ organizations including the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA). She was one of twelve founding members (and the only woman) of the International Computer Virus Association (ICVA). Pam Kane has authored books about on-line communications and computer security, and is an internationally-known expert on the subject of computer viruses (The Data Recovery Bible, Prodigy Made Easy, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Electronic Highway and several other titles). She has been a contributor to such magazines as Home PC, Portable Computing, washingtonpost.com (she was their "Dear Ms. Modem" columnist) and Elegant Bride. Ms. Kane has appeared on Good Morning America, CNN, NBC News, CBS Evening News, Financial News Network, Late Night Philadelphia, Science Friday, the Osgood Chronicles and MSNBC.com as the "HurriKANE Magnet." She is a regular contributor to Cruise Travel magazine, a former contributing editor of Porthole Magazine, was the "First Cruisers" editor for cruisemates.com and is an editor of Travel World International. Unfortunately, Pam passed away in September of 2004. Please read the tribute written by her husband, Andy Hopkins. Andy has pledged to continue marketing the book. Listen for him on your favorite travel radio show or in cruise media.
