Clearly in the past people had more of a feeling of
being ‘obligated" to their families and extended families. Are we
better off now that we don’t feel these obligations so intensely? Does
it free us up to create our own missions, or does it result in selfishness
as a society? |

Attila the Hun was—undeniably—a beast. Many people
died because of him. Was Gudrun right to want to kill him? Or was Sagaria’s
approach the better choice? How does this tie in to leaders today whom we
pretty much all agree are beasts? Should they be assassinated? |

What was the most difficult part of Gudrun’s
imprisonment? What would be most difficult for you? Fear? Boredom?
Loneliness? |

Was it the gold or the celebrity (of being a dragon
slayer) that motivated Sigurd? |
| 5. |
Did you feel any sympathy for Brunhild, who apparently
really did grow up in the forest alone and who was madly in love with
Sigurd? Did her lack of love growing up and lack of guidance give her
license to behave as badly as she does in Gudrun’s Tapestry? If
so, what implications does it have for some of the stories we hear too
often today about kids committing crimes? |

How do you feel about Edeco and his divided loyalties?
Were you able to like him in spite of the abusive way he often treated
Gudrun? Would you have preferred the book to end with him going off with
Gudrun? |
| 7. |
How did Gudrun’s leaving her child make you feel?
Could you have done that? Do you think her mission was worth such a
sacrifice? |
| 8. |
Were you able to forgive Sigurd, as Gudrun was, when he
explained how he came to think he was in love with Brunhild? What would
you have done? |
